Thinking back over the last few months, one theme becomes really apparent: that is how those who are on the front lines have helped ensure any success that SFM has achieved, and they deserve the credit. To some degree, this runs through my mind every day. I suppose there’s a parallel to draw here, as self-awareness is somewhat baked into our organization’s culture–part of what has gotten us to where we are. It was with great honour that our entire team at SFM received the Gold Standard award in 2022 as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the 4th consecutive year.

As we enter a new hiring phase, I’d just like to say a few words about how proud I am to be part of an organization with such a stimulating balance of vision and knowledge. Our willingness to continually ask ourselves tough questions about what we can do as individuals, teams, and across the organization to keep moving forward is a great thing.

From the very beginning, our company has always been about our people and creating a work environment and opportunities that are conducive to their growth and ours. Our people are the core of our business, and thanks to them, we continue to provide customized go-to-market solutions to global brands within the audiovisual, live entertainment, and media production industries year after year. Receiving this prestigious designation could not have been possible without the dedicated and passionate professionals we count as our own at SFM.

Winning this designation is no small feat, and there are a lot of aspects at all levels that have contributed to this achievement.

Here are some key elements that helped us towards consecutive wins:

  • Demonstrating a renewed focus on customer and supplier relationships
  • Recognizing efforts over the entire organization
  • Integrating social and governance considerations, strategic planning, and decision making
  • Emerging successfully from Covid-19 challenges by adapting and adopting the SFM 2.0, an initiative developed by looking at the strategic direction of the company and resolutely implementing change for success
  • Continued attention to employee wellbeing and talent retention, with opportunities for professional development and growth that monitor and measure progress
  • Clear and consistent communication throughout the organization to foster a collaborative and inclusive workplace

Being named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies 4 years running, and receiving the Gold Standard, is a true honour for us. We dedicate this designation to our entire team at SFM.

It’s true that what lies ahead is never certain, but I can say with certainty that our company will always keep moving forward as a team to strive for new levels of professional and collective excellence.

Sincerely,

Randal Tucker
President & Chief Executive Officer

Want to join one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies?

Canada’s Best Managed Companies are World-Class. What does that really mean?

Canada’s Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $50 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices.

The awards are granted on four levels: 1) Canada’s Best Managed Companies new winner (one of the new winners selected each year); 2) Canada’s Best Managed Companies winner (award recipients that have re-applied and successfully retained their Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review); 3) Gold Standard winner (after three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully retained their award for 4-6 consecutive years); 4) Platinum Club member (winners that have maintained their Best Managed status for seven years or more).
